The 28th Nigerian University Games will no longer take place on the November dates previously announced for the University of Calabar. The Nigerian University Games Association has moved the event to 2027, but has not yet announced the replacement dates.
The competition, branded the Paradise Games, had been scheduled for November 14–24, 2026. NUGA’s October 29 announcement said revised schedules and logistical information would come through its official channels. The announcement did not provide a specific explanation for the postponement, so a cause should not be assumed from the change alone.
For student-athletes, a calendar shift affects more than the competition itself. A training plan built around a November event may now need a different sequence of preparation, recovery and selection. Those decisions belong to the relevant teams and institutions; the postponement is not an instruction for athletes to abandon training or assume they have already secured a place next year.
The host university had previously set aside Wednesdays without lectures or practical classes to support preparation. That makes the next institutional update important for students as well as competitors. A sporting announcement and an academic-calendar decision are separate matters, and the report did not include a new instruction from the university about those arrangements.
Anyone planning travel or accommodation now has a clear reason to review the dates on existing arrangements. Before making another booking, the missing information is a confirmed replacement schedule. Moving an event to a different year is not the same as confirming a particular month or promising that previous reservations will transfer automatically.
There is also a distinction between postponement and cancellation. The stated intention is to hold the games in 2027. That keeps a future event in view, while leaving participants without the detailed timetable they need to organise attendance. A revised date, when announced, will be a separate development worth checking.
For now, the reliable update is the change from November 2026 to an unspecified date in 2027. Students, teams and visitors should use the next NUGA and university announcements to settle practical arrangements, rather than relying on the original programme or circulating an unconfirmed replacement date.
